Where genuine rising damp is caused by a missing or failed DPC, a chemical damp-proof course injection can often provide an

effective solution without removing sections of the brick wall The process generally involves drilling a series of small holes at specified intervals along a mortar joint and introducing a specialised damp-proofing cream or fluid.  Once installed correctly, the product penetrates the masonry and creates a water-repellent barrier designed to prevent ground moisture from continuing to rise through the wall.

In simple terms, it creates a new damp-proof barrier within the existing masonry.

The typical process involves:

1. Identifying the correct level for the new damp-proof course.
2. Drilling into the mortar bed at the required spacing and depth.
3. Applying the compliant Westox damp-proofing product.
4. Allowing the treatment to distribute through the masonry.
5. Making good the injection points before completing the wall repairs.

Because the treatment is installed into the existing masonry, there is usually no need to remove entire sections of brickwork or undertake major structural alterations. For many Gold Coast rising damp repairs, this makes chemical DPC injection a practical option with considerably less invasive than traditional physical damp-course replacement.

Step 4: Remove Salt-Contaminated Plaster and Render

Stopping the source of rising moisture is only part of the repair. As groundwater moves through masonry, it can carry dissolved salts into the bricks, mortar and plaster. When the moisture evaporates, those salts remain behind. Some of these salts are hygroscopic, meaning they can absorb moisture from the surrounding air. As a result, a wall may continue to look or feel damp even after the original moisture pathway has been addressed.

That’s why badly contaminated plaster generally needs to be removed rather than simply painted over. Depending on the extent of the damage, affected finishes may be removed beyond the visibly damp area and replaced with a suitable salt-resistant or remedial render system. This stage is important.
